PAX.ARQ, in collaboration with Vazquez Junqueira Arquitetura, designed this concept for the CAD SP (Digital Arts Center of São Paulo) as a study for São Paulo’s secretary of culture. The transparent, prismatic cube arises from the concepts of inter-connectivity, transparency and respect to pre-existing architectural surroundings. Learn more after the break.
The landmark structure is strategically punctured at various locations in order to interact with the surrounding context, frame views and enhance environmental sensation. It’s layout increases connectivity between adjacent areas – Square of Arts, Anhangabau’s Valey and Boulevard São João – and facilitates the fluidity of pedestrian movement through CADSP.
The few openings in the front are not random, but rather directed at important points of focus that include the Post Office, Square of Arts, and the sky.
The facades are coated with an alternately opaque and transparent material that coordinates with the buildings activity and pedestrian circulation. It’s opaque and reflective panels are used to relay information and communication with the immediate surroundings.
